This dress was a WIN as soon as I put it on!

Fit perfectly, comfortable, on trend and just GORG!!!

As soon as I saw it, I fell in love with it!….. I usually know, if I love it instantly, I’ll eventually buy it because if I don’t, I’ll just be thinking and dreaming about it until I do! (yes I dream about clothing…..)

My advice though, if you love it from the get go, BUY IT or hey there’s always layby! I have purchased a number of outfits thinking “yeah it looks alright”….. but that shouldn’t be a selling point. Most times I’ll get home and then it sits in the cupboard for a while or I’ll wear it once and try to convince myself I love it. “OMG I’m in love” now that’s a reason to buy it then and there. MY ADVICE is….. beware the trap!!!! If you love it, but cannot afford it, resist trying it on…. believe me, it is more painful to walk away from the perfect outfit when it looked so GOOD on you….!!! Maybe try waiting for it to come down in the sales(which I try my luck at, a lot of times) but then you run the risk of it being sold out completely. (it can be devastating!)

But sometimes my bank account just has to suffer….. or I have to resort to going without meat for a week (noodles are cheaper haha) to buy that knockout outfit. Fashion is sacrifice…..!

Sometimes looking good while you sweat is hard!

It was just a run of hot weather (sweatfest to be exact, with major humidity) and I had to go out to the city for the day. Deciding what to wear to look nice and comfortable can be a challenge when you step outside for five minutes and you’re already sweating up a storm…. urrrgghhh!!!

Thank god it’s acceptable to wear loose clothes this season. Couldn’t go past my new culottes (yes I obviously love them) and a grey Saba crop (a little oversized, so perfect to feel not too restricted and not too long for those breeze bursts).

I don’t get the whole, wearing tight pants when it hot hot hot, how does one do I? I overheat so much I feel like I’m going to faint. Maybe I’ll try it for the weight loss factor!

So my advice on days, when your armpits are soggier than a old man in a sauna…..

*Keep it light

*Keep it flowy

*Don’t wear in-closed shoes (give those feet some air ladies) and invest in some comfy flats, your feet will thank you.

*Go oversized …. it’s OK!

*Don’t forget the deodorant (it could be disastrous otherwise)

YOU JUST NEED TO LET GO…… THE BIG CLEANOUT!

YOU REALLY NEED TO LET GO!

Believe me this is harder to do than most people think. We can have an emotional link with some of our pieces of clothing :’This is the skirt I kissed that guy in’, ‘this is the top I got my job promotion in’. BUT why keep it, if we’re never going to wear it again???

This weekend instead of doing a shoot to post as an outfit blog, I knew I needed to finally clean out some of my OUTDATED clothes (and let’s be honest I had a few, way too many)… to make way for the news ones, my new style and of course some closet space. (which is needed that’s for sure!)

HERE’S FIVE TIPS ……

FIRST STEP : Allocate a good hour or two to doing this as it can be time consuming (well yes in my case because I have so many clothes…. and it’s tiring, you’ll need a cuppa and a piece of cake after to recover)

STEP TWO : Know who you are and what your style is and represents. I have completely changed my style in the last year. Colour it seems has gone out the door (although there is the exceptional hot red dress!!)Black, white and tan seems to be my style mantra, so looking at my wardrobe it didn’t really reflect that because there were too many old clothes.

STEP THREE : Be harsh! Yes it may still look good on you still but my TIP is “Did you wear it in the last season?” If the answer is NO then WHY do you need to keep it? Get rid of it….. OR “Have you worn it in the last 6-12 months?” If the answer is again NO, sorry but it goes onto the ditch pile. And just because it’s a DESIGNER brand doesn’t excuse keeping it…. !!!

DON’T JUST KEEP THINGS BECAUSE YOU THINK THEY’RE GREAT, IF THEY DON’T FIT PROPERLY, THEY ARE NOT YOUR STYLE…. IT’S NOT WORTH CLOGGING UP YOUR WARDROBE.

STEP FOUR : Once you have a pile of things you are ridding from your wardrobe, think about whether they are good enough to sell them….WHY not make some $$$$$ Is it still a great item someone else would like to wear? Then sell it on EBAY (more money to buy fabulous things you want)…. otherwise donate to Vinnies or the SALVOS… it’s all for a good cause and the disadvantaged can also look stylish.. or the hipsters!!!

STEP FIVE : Rearrange your wardrobe so it is more organised, pants in one section, tops in another….. so on. Maybe colour co-ordinate. A clean and organized wardrobe makes it so much easier when you’re in a rush to see the fabulous clothes you have and so they’re not hiding away… believe me I have forgotten some things I have bought and then months later discovered them when I could have been wearing them all that time.

FEEL GOOD ABOUT YOUR CULL!

Treat yourself by buying that fabulous top or stunning skirt afterwards….. the pain eases pretty quickly.

WHAT ARE YOUR TIPS FOR A CLEANOUT!!!

The new arrival!!!

This summer, I needed a flowy maxi (don’t we all). The good thing about this one it is structured with lining in the back to shape it better. YES of course I have maxi’s but not in black. (‘Got it in black?’ I said to the saleswoman) I used to think long black dresses were a bit drab and more for a funeral (I really did)…. but there’s something effortlessly chic about a long black maxi….. paired with gorgeous silver or gold accessories to make it pop (I go for the silver).

Do yourself a favour…. every woman needs a BLAXI (black maxi)……

There’s always the battle of being comfortable and also stylish. Wearing flowy Vs wearing the more figure hugging!!!
Let’s be honest if my husband had his way he would probably throw out some of my more ‘comfortable’ clothes…. but these days and the trend that is this season, it’s ok to go a little oversized and feel good about your style.

When I first saw culottes back in fashion, I thought to myself, ‘I wore those at school, I’m not getting a pair of those’. But here we are…… a pair of culottes later and I’m loving them, so unbelievably great to wear.

But BEWARE the comfy or oversized garment….. they can make you look bigger than you are if not done right… no one wants to look like they are wearing a tent. An item still needs to have shape if it’s a little bigger, which will avoid you looking like you brought grandma’s top……!

Culottes…. yah or nay??? I’m now on board!!!!

PEARLS ARE ALWAYS APPROPRIATE; THERE’S A SILVER LINING

As Jackie Kennedy said “Pearls are always appropriate!”

I never used to like Pearls but now I have many sets in different colours, white, beige, black, pink. I think it’s an accessory that comes with age and maturity…. as it’s not something you usually see younger women wearing.

Pearls are a bold statement! I’ll wear my Pearly bests to add elegance and femininity to an outfit. Usually they’re for a special occasion, a stunning dress or to make you feel that like bit extra posh! I advise if you haven’t got into them, give them a try…they’re timeless and add that something extra special to an outfit….. just don’t over crowd them with other pieces.. Pearls do the work all by themselves.

There’s no doubt I like simple, so when I go out anywhere, I have my staples on….. my flat silver chain (which was given to me, bought in China… I never take it off), some diamond square earrings and a bangle…. or two.

I don’t feel you need endless amounts of jewellery, sometimes I feel it needs to be an addition to an outfit…. not a take over.

I love a chunky bracelet too, in silver with dark stones and silver bangles always add a bit extra….

And I never go anywhere without my rings…….!! All white gold, mostly diamond…. I’d feel naked without them.

My accessories moto : go simple….!

The RED dress is always irresistible!

Since it’s Christmas why not get into a hot number….that you can wear to Xmas parties, work events and all the above whilst trying to be festive at the same time. (because sometimes it can be hard not to be BA HUMBUG!!)

I don’t usually wear a lot of strapless dresses or tops simply for the fact I have very broad and muscley shoulders but the double layer at the top softens it, to balance everything a bit better than a straight across line.

The festive season is a time to try out all those cute numbers that are just a little too nice for a dinner out and experiment with things you wouldn’t normally, show people at work (at Xmas parties) the real you (which I like to do through fashion because let’s face it I have no artistic flare to make cute decorations or create gorgeous gifts whatsoever!).

And while I’m normally decked out in black, white, crème or grey these days, sometimes I’ll bring the old me back with a burst of colour, it can also revitalise your spirit a little…. well once in a while anyways!

And I couldn’t resist my other fashion accessory….. BOOF take a bow!

GO COLOUR, it’s the best time yes?

It’s a rare occasion I get to go away for the weekend to the coast. While I could visit one of many beautiful beaches in Sydney, it’s nice to drive away somewhere and get away from it all. This is me in my casual mode, boyfriend jeans, baggy tops, little makeup and unstyled hair.

I love the beach, I used to live 5 minutes from the water and loved to spend time soaking in the sun on the golden sand, going for a dip and then relaxing with a magazine. But now I’m in the suburbs, coupled with a busy lifestyle, it’s hard to get back to the place I love.

On the weekend, I was in Bonny Hills, not far from Port Macquarie, unfortunately it was a little cool to take a dip but the view, the sounds and the salty spray made me at ease once again.

What’s your favourite place to unwind?

‘FOR THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS…. I HOPE MY TRUE LOVE SENDS TO ME!!’

There’s no doubt that Christmas is a celebratory time of year, but your time is usually (and your money) consumed with buying other people gifts, so that hot dress you wanted or that stylish jacket you must have, needs to be put on the back burner!

So I’ve combined a list of ‘ the twelve things I wish I was getting for Christmas’. Cross my fingers I’ll get just one…… maybe my other half or Santa will be good this year! Here’s hoping!!

image

SCANLAN & THEODORE

Scuba Pleat Skirt – Flesh ($600)

When I saw this, needless to say I had an ooohhhh….. moment. Beautifully made and thick and luxurious and the colour is so my style right now. Even girl needs a high waisted pleated skirt.

image

WITTNER

Race Black Leather Shoes ($189.95)

These are simple, elegant, yet very comfortable (not your sky high heel). A pair of heels that can go with absolutely any outfit, where could you go wrong?

daphne skirt

TONI MATICEVSKI

Daphne Knot Pencil Skirt – Spring Green ($899)

Yes… I know it’s nearly $900 just for a skirt but this one nearly knocked me over when I saw it, stunning and original and the epitome of style. It also comes in pants, a top and a dress with the bow type style, all stylish to the max, but the skirt was definitely the winner for me.

image

SABA

Drew Ponte Tee Dress – White ($199)

White, crisp, comfortable and stylish, what’s not to like? This is essential for every wardrobe! A great spring/summer item, I can’t believe I don’t have one already.

image

SABA

Agatha Culotte – Cement, Ink ($180)

I have been searching for the right pair of culottes for a while. Well there’s been a few styles I have wanted, but they have sold out very quickly. I think these will be my next purchase. Easy to wear, comfortable, in season/on trend and pair nicely with a white or grey tee or a top with a bit more embellishment when you need to go out.

image

MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA

Beige Nude Bodysuit ($265)

A plain, stylish bodysuit is something I wish I had for a number of reasons. Great for when you wear high waisted pants or skirts and for this style it comes in other colours like black and white which will go with anything.

image

OROTON

Barrel Bag – Medium, Black (695)

The perfect black bag is like the perfect black dress, you always need one and most of the time they never go out of style. This Oroton bag is just simple, but stunningly classic and will match any outfit, I’m sure I’d get plenty of bag wear out of this one.

image

BY JOHNNY

The Powder Ruff One Shoulder Dress – Grey, White ($350)

I have really come to love the By Johnny brand, the materials are really nice and stretchy, and cling nicely to a woman’s body (and even one with curves like myself). I have always had a thing for one shoulder dresses so this was a bit of a stand out, and always a favourite of mine a peplum (I even had one of my wedding dress).

image

VERONICA MAINE

Silky Viscose Jumpsuit – Black ($279)

I wanted this to wear Christmas day….. stylish, cool and comfortable (especially for when you put yourself in a food coma). You could mix and match with different pairs of shoes to makes it more of a casual outfit or whack on some killer heels and glam accessories and you have a night out with the ladies. Love its versatility.

image

MIUMIU

Little Bag – Pale Pink ($820)

Little pricey for what I would usually pay for a small bag but a bit of a luxury item. Although I’m not usually a pink fan, it swings more towards nude colour and hence why I love it. Always need a classy little bag for a night out on the town.

image

CUE

Crepe Wide Leg Panelled Pant – Black ($229)

As you have probably already guessed, I love a good high wasited anything and Cue is one of my favourite and trusted brands (that’s not too expensive)! I should have them by now, I actually only have some cream crepe pants that I adore, so it’s only right that I invest in some of these beauties…. why haven’t I already????

image

DION LEE

Raglan Sleeve Tee – White ($395)

These type and cut of tee shirts are always worth buying in a few different colours. They look great, match well with high waisted anything and can be worn in both a casual or more dressed up setting. Gotta have one of these, I already have a couple but in black, in different brands… I need more!

image

CHANEL

No 5 Paris – Eau Premiere

Yes, I know it was only supposed to be 12 but this one you just can’t go past. I ran out of my Chanel about a month ago and was trying to wait until Christmas to see these appear in my stocking. We’ll have to wait and see…. one hopes!

Nothing more elegant and beautiful than this perfume and I always love to have it on my dressing table.

So these are my top 12….. well 13 picks for the festive season! I think it’s better that I am restricted to a set amount because let’s be honest I could go on forever, there’s always something a girl wants and ain’t that the truth!!!

I love nothing better than leather (or leather look) and I can’t go past denim, so put them together and it’s a casual look made in heaven.

The combo will definitely add a dose of cool to the season and with the right accessories (like always) a look like this, can go from hanging out with the boys at the pub (add leather cap and flats) or an on-trend street look with a feminine touch (add heels and loads of jewellery). The androgynous look is fast becoming a favourite style of mine.

I’m still looking around for the perfect black leather skirt ( a staple piece) that would look perfect with the rest of this outfit, I know when I find it, it will virtually screams ‘gotta have it’ at you…… GOT ANY SUGGESTIONS?
